At the end of 2016 I had set some goals for myself. Days before ringing in the new year I came up with three very specific goals to work towards.
1) Run 1,000 miles
2) Break 1:40 for the Half Marathon
3) PR in the Marathon
For some these goals are easily attainable. As for me, they are attainable for sure but it would come at a cost. A cost of early mornings, late evenings, tired weekends and more. Success or failure I definitely was committed.
I’ve attempted to break 1,000 miles for the past 2 years. This particular goal isn’t new in fact it’s just been transferred over the years. The first year I came up short by about 250 miles. There was definitely a huge gap I had to close. Come 2016 i finished with a total of 950.9 miles. Yes, I came short by about 49 miles. Even though 2017 has not come to an end I am sure done running for this year.
2017 – 1,072.5 miles 😀<<<<
year I won an entry to the Alamo 13.1 race in downtown San Antonio. I went into that race not really knowing how I would do but I'd give it my best. I began to struggle by the end of the race and finished with a time of 1:45:57. I knew I would be racing sometime in the fall but I didn't know what, when or where. <<<<
ng one of my training runs in November I ran 13.1 miles in 1:42:47. 😀 Now I guess you can say it is "unofficial" but I still consider this my best. I didn't break 1:40 but I set a new PR.
Prior to Rock N Roll Marathon 2017 I had completed 3 marathons. I would say that I trained just enough for Colfax Denver Marathon in 2016. I have never taken a marathon as serious as I have this year. After 3 months of hard physical training I completed the race in 4:17. 😣 My race in Denver still stands as my PR of 4:04.
Out of the 3 goals I set for myself I can fully check 1 off the list. Maybe I didn't break 1:40 for the half but I lowered my best by 2 whole minutes. Well, what can I say about the marathon. You have good days and you have off days.
Even though I didn't have it on the list this past year I do consider the following an honorable mention. In 2016 I broke and set my new PR for the 5K at 21:03 during the San Antonio Turkey 🦃 Trot. This year we spent thanksgiving in Fort Worth but ran the Arlington Turkey Trot where I set a new PR of 20:50. At the end of the day I feel that I have made the most progress this year than ever before. I am proud of what I’ve accomplished and this has only made me stronger and more determined to do better this upcoming year.
